In response to the advance ever-increasing world of technology that seems to be now permanently with us, we here at Wildtrack Publishing have taken the decision to make the Journal of Practically Ecology and Conservation available to a much wider audience, hence this new e-journal version of the hard copy already available. Although in theory, not a long job, it has been a while in the making and there are still some obvious bugs that require attention (!), but we hope you are pleased with the results so far. As with many things in life, the pages will not remain 'static' once posted up. The site will be dynamic and this is where you, the reader/contributor, has the opportunity to have your say. As was outlined on the Index page you have just left, one of the fundamentals of the Journal is your input and to this end, apart from the academic papers that form the bulk of the Journal, there are also four other sections:

  • Notes: These are papers submitted, referreed and edited in much the same way as full papers, but with the intention of stimulating debate;
  • Eco-tones & Under-tones: Shorter than 'Notes', but with the same editorial rules applying. They are not only intended to stimulate debate, but could also include precursors to forthcoming papers, etc.
  • Eco-bites: Perhaps the easiest section to contribute to, 'Eco-bites' are intended to be short (no longer than a large paragraph or two, with a maximum of 250 words), 'news'-type items. For example, what your conservation group has recently achieved, surveys to be undertaken, funding released for projects, political decisions affecting conservation and/or ecology, etc. The reader is referred, as a prticularly good example, to Volume 1, Issue 1 of the Journal;
  • Newsletter: It is hoped that in the very near future, we will have a newsletter format we can work with. It will be based very much on 'Eco-bites', with a simple clear format.

The general format of the web site follows very much the format of the Journal, i.e:

  • Editorial paper;
  • Main papers;
  • Notes;
  • Eco-bites;
  • Eco-tones & Under-tones;
  • Contributors guideline notes.

The main papers contain summaries/abstracts only. For the full articles, purchase of the Journal is necessary (please see 'Subscriptions' elsewhere on the web site). Unless they are expectionally lenghty, all 'Notes', 'Eco-tones & Under-tones' and 'Eco-bites' will appear in full. We would also welcome illustrations to be submitted for inclusion in the e-journal, where they can be used to best illustrate points that otherwise would require large amounts of text. This not because we don't want to present the text: Rather, on-line time is consuming and sometimes, expensive. Reading a long article can be longer than downloading an image. However, data result tables should be submitted for both the e-journal and full papers as described in the 'Advice for Contributors' (you would be best advised to go to that page and print it). Photographic illustrations should, preferably be scanned at a resolution of 150 dpi in either .GIF or .JPG format and if possible, e-mailed as an attachment to the address in the footer of this page. Alternatively, forward them with a copy of your paper to the editorial desk (address available on the 'Subscriptions' page) on a 3.5" virus-checked floppy disk. We shall endeavour to return them to you! Please do not submit top copies of photographs unless you have back-ups available!

Thank you.
